Guitarist Chuck D'Aloia is suffering from Adhesive Capsulitis or Frozen Shoulder. This condition has been affecting him for years, but it recently has gotten much worse. I know many people are fans of his brilliant guitar playing and Chuck's video lessons on playing guitar. Here is Chuck's story in his own words:
I grew up in Mechanicville, NY. Born in dec of '56, I've been playing the guitar since 1962. Professionally since 1976 after a few semesters at Berklee. At age 19, I started playing full time and never looked back. I've never had a job outside of music. In 1980 I got what is called "Shoulder Freeze" a very painful condition that prevented me from playing for 7-10 days back then. It would happen every few years with the same result. This went on for years, gradually getting worse and having a longer healing time. I never had Health Ins until I was 40 and that was intermittent. I've put in well over the 10,000 hrs that people talk about and have gotten further than my wildest dreams when I started out. At 21 I was playing with DownBeat poll winner and Grammy nominee the late, great Nick Brignola. Many other gigs followed. At one point I was in 10 bands. Years went by and I did every kind of gig you can think of. As things got progressively worse with my shoulder I started making pre-recorded lessons to sell on the internet preparing for the worst. In 2016 after a three day workshop at a college in upstate NY it froze but this was different. It didn't go away for months. I've seen many docs without a good outcome. I rested it for a few months and tried again and once again it froze. I haven't played a gig since April of 2016 and have had to sell everything of value that I owned to survive.
Chuck is searching for a solution to his shoulder problem, but in the meantime, his financial situation has grown dire.
