Emergency Treatment for April's Chronic Lyme Disease

This is my beautiful friend, April and she needs our help.

Currently April’s prognosis is not good. The backstory is below so you can understand how she got here. Since January of this year April’s symptoms have progressed rapidly and most days she has trouble even getting out of bed. When she does have the energy to leave her bed, she is very weak, feels tired and unsteady. April puts on a strong game face and from the outside, you probably wouldn't even know how much she is struggling, and on the inside she feels like she's dying. The sooner she is able to get treatment, the better her outcome will be, and any support you can offer is so greatly appreciated.

5 years ago, April was diagnosed with Chronic Lyme's Disease. Her symptoms were migraine headaches, nerve pain throughout her body; mainly in her face, jaw, neck, back and limbs, numbness and tingling, disturbed sleep, chronic fatigue, body chills and sweating. The disease also affected the cranial nerves in her brain, which contributed to her developing depression and anxiety. Due to all of these symptoms, she was put on a medical leave of absence from her job.

Because Lyme's Disease is not well researched in Canada (despite being diagnosed a lot), government health insurance does not cover treatment. At the time, April was working and was fortunate enough to be able to apply for a loan to cover the extensive costs of treatment that she received in at the St. Georg Clinic in Germany. She spent 30 days there where they treated her Lyme with a method called Antibiotic Augmented Thermo-Eradication (AAT), a type of specialized hyperthermia (slowly heating the body up to very high temperatures) that kills the Lyme bacteria). It was a painful and traumatic process, and it was relatively successful; enough to put her Lyme into remission. She was unable to return to work however, as she was also going through a stressful divorce, and both her psychiatrist and her family doctor advised against it.

Unfortunately, over the last year, April was in a series of car accidents. She developed whip lash and her C5 was fractured. In January of 2024 after an improper physio treatment on her neck, her symptoms worsened, and she started experiencing many of the symptoms mentioned above. Since January, she has tried several other types of treatment focusing on her neck, all out of pocket expenses that have not been covered by neither her government health nor her disability insurance.

She did receive some financial assistance from friends and family for some of these expenses and still the stress of the bills piling up has not helped her.

April has been terrified of the thought of her Lyme's Disease coming back. Finally in March, she decided to work with a naturopath here in Edmonton, to have the testing done again. The blood work was sent to Armin Labs in Germany and when the results came back, they determined that the Lyme's Disease has returned along with several co-infections. She has tested positive for 3 different strains of bacteria associated with Lyme's Disease: Bartonella, Babesia and Erlichia.

With April not being able to work for the last few years, she has lost the ability to apply for another loan to help pay for treatment and the ability to go to Germany for treatment again.
