From one coast to another - help buy Chromebooks
Tax deductible
If you, like me, are looking for tangible and immediate ways to help others during this unprecedented crisis, please consider supporting distance learning for a group of students at www.dcscholars.org. We have a chance to make a positive difference in a community that needs it.
For context, I connected earlier tonight with an old friend whose husband is on the front lines as an ER doctor. Fortunately, while working long shifts and dealing with daily challenges that are hard to imagine, he is healthy. She, however, could use a hand. Not for herself, but for the students she is working hard to educate.
As Executive Director of a charter school serving many underprivileged children, her team is tasked with setting up distance learning for what could likely be the rest of the school year for more than 500 students. The current barrier to their efforts is the cost of Chromebooks, since many students have no other way to access the tools needed to learn remotely. Chromebooks with LTE access cost about $600 each. While several hundred are needed, every single device we can purchase makes a positive difference on a life, and enables a student to continue to learn while schools are closed. Online learning and easily accessible communication keep students engaged and focused at a time when structure and positive supports in trauma and anxiety-filled homes is critical, and of course it keeps our scholars on the path to improved and successful outcomes when they are unable to come to the school for academic and socio-emotional support.
This is a non-profit, so donations are tax deductible. All donations go directly to the school for this purpose.
Many thanks and lots of love to everyone.
