Chris has Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and relies on a wheelchair to be mobile. When at home he is primarily confined to bed. We got a used wheelchair van when he first began using a power chair in 2009.
Our van is a 2000 Dodge VMI Conversion vehicle with now over 100,000 miles on it.
Currently the passenger side window is screwed into the shut position because it stopped working. The passenger side door (where the ramp is) randomly pops slightly open while driving. The driver side window is getting finicky. I've had mutiple issues with the engine, replacing belts and such in the past two years, including replacing the gas intake valve a few months ago. The brakes have problems on an almost annual basis. And guess what? The check engine light is on again.
I've come to the conclusion that with our limited means, I am pouring money into a dying vehicle and it is time to replace. Wheelchair vans are not cheap. I'm only looking to get another, though hopefully newer, used van, but the amount I can afford would only get us a van in the same year (or older) with about as many miles on it.
A newer (though still used) van would enable me to stop spending countless dollars that our family cannot afford, and allow our family to go on outings, as well as continue transporting Chris to important medical appointments.
Life is not easy for our family. I work full time. Both of our boys have special needs and require extra time and support and therapies. Chris requires 24/7 care and support. I would like to be able to do this for our family, and with your support, I can!
