Hi, my name is Christy. I am a 42-year-old mom of 3. I am battling my 3rd recurrence of cervical cancer. In 2016, I was diagnosed with stage 1b1 of squamous cell carcinoma. I had a hysterectomy to remove the mass. I started having back pain pretty regularly following the hysterectomy, but nothing was found.
In early 2021, they found a large mass that had fractured my L5. So, I started chemo and radiation while my husband battled COVID for 17 days in the hospital. After treatment, the scans showed the mass had died and was calcifying.
In 2023, I started having bad back pain from the damage done to my spine. So, I had a spinal fusion in August, a CSF leak repair in November, and then a staph infection in my back in January of 2024. One complication of the spinal fusion was my peroneal nerve was damaged, leaving my right foot paralyzed and with numbness and muscle loss all the way up my thigh. I used a walker until early January 2025, and I can walk with a cane and a foot brace. However, I cannot stand for more than 5 minutes and cannot walk very far at all. It turns out my cancer has returned, and I started chemo in the spring of 2024. That chemo isn't working, so we are starting a new chemo as of 5/3/25 and are planning some more radiation. Surgery is not an option.
Because of this, I have not worked since November of 2023. I have applied for disability but have not received any payments yet. My kids are mostly grown, but we still have a lot of bills.
We have been very lucky so far with insurance, but we still have bills to pay. We have many trips to the hospital an hour away. We could use any help that you can spare. I know everything is expensive now, so I appreciate any help.
