Our beloved teacher and friend Christyn Pope has been battling melanoma for the past few years. In March 2018, Christyn was diagnosed with advanced melanoma (stage 4) and began an aggressive immunotherapy and radiation program to fight this terrible cancer.
On Saturday June 30, Christyn, who loves international travel, was with friends on vacation in the Maldives. She suffered a brain hemorrhage, a rare complication from her treatment. She had emergency surgery in Male and is currently progressing from her surgery in the hospital there. When she is stable, her doctor can clear her to fly back San Diego, which could be as soon as 10 days, or as long as 6 weeks.
Several friends have been at her side during this scary and complicated surgery, and her sister Carla arrived this week. All of us remain optimistic that she will get stronger and hope that she is able to come home quickly.
We are asking loved ones and friends to donate anything they can to help offset medical expenses that may not be covered by her insurance, costs for rehabilitation or unforeseen expenses. Our family knows that Christyn is strong, she’s brave, and she’s a fighter. Words can not express our appreciation for your love and support.
