Christy Traina and Family Need Our Help
Donation protected
As some of you may know, Christy Traina has been through a devastating, life-changing event over this past summer.
Christy had spent two months in three different hospitals, endured multiple surgeries, but unfortunately had to have both of her legs amputated due to blood clots.
Her daughter is a first-grader. During kindergarten, Christy was the class mom and did so much for the kids. She also volunteered at lunchtime and was active in helping with school activities and trips. She is devastated and heartbroken that she can no longer do these things for her daughter.
This summer, Christy ended up in the emergency room with severe pain in her legs. She was transferred from hospital to hospital and eventually ended up being flown by helicopter to Johns Hopkins. The doctors at Johns Hopkins did everything they could to save her legs with bypass surgeries and medication, but unfortunately, they weren't able to.
Seven surgeries later, she is now a double amputee and can no longer work or be active in her daughter's school activities and extracurricular activities such as her dance and piano lessons.
Her boyfriend, Rob, has become Christy's full-time caretaker since she's been home from the hospital, so he is also out of work. He drives her weekly to the hospital for her blood testing and twice a week to therapy where she gets physical therapy, occupational therapy, and is beginning to learn to walk with prosthetics. Social Security Disability benefits are currently in the process but take over a year to kick in.
Construction is underway to make their home accessible for Christy with a wheelchair ramp, handicapped-accessible bathroom and shower, and changes to the laundry room and kitchen so she can continue to take care of her family. These costs are exorbitant and are slowly eating away at the family's savings. She also needs to retrofit her car with hand controls so that she can eventually drive and be able to take her daughter places again.
If you are in a position to donate to help this family out, it would be greatly appreciated. No one is ever prepared for something like this, and any amount would be beneficial to help them move forward in this extremely difficult journey.
