Christopher’s Heart Transplant out of pocket expenses
Donation protected
Hi all~ Jody here. Many of you already know, but for those who don’t- my cousin, Chris Fowler, is in need of a heart transplant after a lifetime of cardiac issues starting at birth. He is a very humble man, and will be angry with me for starting this. But honestly I don’t care. I adore him, he’s been my lifelong best friend, we’ve leaned on each other through everything, and now I can’t help him- other than to help raise funds for what I know will be extremely expensive. Yes, he has health insurance, but unfortunately, like many others, it’s not the best coverage, and as a result of that, and being in and out of work dealing with the multiple health issues, he already has medical debt, and I know the stress of it adds to the long list of his worry. There will be a lot of out of pocket expenses surrounding this procedure, from co-pays, testing, prescription costs… then there’s the expense of lodging and meals. Typically after the transplant is done, and you’re released from the hospital, the medical team requires you to stay within a short distance of the hospital so you can receive emergency treatment if needed, sometimes up to 6 months after. Chris will need to be able to find a place to stay during that time, as he will be traveling to either Boston or Westchester, both being 3-4 hours away from home. I know he’s worried, I know he’s tired. He’s simply sick of being sick. I want to show him that he’s not alone, to lift some of the burden. He won’t ask for help so I will on his behalf. Please consider donating, any amount will help. Let’s get him the help he needs so he can get back to living the life he was meant to- making us all laugh and wrapping us up in his awesome bear hugs- hopefully without a pacemaker and defibrillator poking us in the ear!
