Hello all of our friends and family members,
As you can infer from the title of this campaign, Christopher will be having a pretty serious surgery to remove tumors on his jaw.
About 3 weeks ago, we discovered there was a “lump” on Christopher’s jaw. We initially had thought it could be an infection or something that could simply be taken care, but due to the abnormality of it, this prompted him to go to an Emergency Room, where they cancelled out any sign of infection or an abscess. They not only found the mass on the side of his jaw, they also discovered a pigmented lesion on his hard palette of his mouth. They set him up with a Head and Neck Surgical Specialist to further probe it and see what it might be.
He had an appointment with the surgeon, and after many tests and hours later, they discovered that he had a large mass on his jaw bone, that has been deteriorating it to where if there is too much pressure, his jaw would break because of how thin it has become. They also found another smaller mass on the other side of his jaw, with some concerning spots in his throat as well that may be just inflammation or masses as well. They have already biopsied the discoloration on his palette, and we are currently awaiting results for that. They are in the process of scheduling a surgery so that they can remove as many of the masses and have those biopsied as well. This surgery should be scheduled the week of July 27th and recovery could last weeks to months depending on the extent of the surgery. Currently, he is on a mush to liquid diet for at least the next 6-12 months, depending on how long it takes for his jaw bone to grow and repair itself as it is so thin right now. We are certainly keeping positive outlook over here, so please keep more positive energy coming our way.
Just a little background about Christopher… He is an artist located in Portland and has been professionally involved in the arts community for over a decade here. He also is co-owner and co-curator of Basic Space Gallery in Portland as well, which has opened the beginning of 2015. He has minimal health insurance coverage at this time, so as to what the insurance company will cover, is still unknown exactly.
We will be having many updates posted as we have them come in. This could have him out of work for an unknown amount of time at this point, possibly, weeks to months, so we will be asking for donations to help cover the costs of our living expenses and care depending on what the insurance will cover. As there will only be one income, things will be tight and any amount you are willing and able to give is beyond helpful and sharing this with as many people as possible will be great!
