Help Christopher Wyatt Get A Liver Transplant
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tina Nolan, and I am trying to get help for my son, Christopher Wyatt. Christopher is a 38 year old man in need of a Liver Transplant.
In June 2022, Christopher started having extreme pain in his back and abdomen. He was diagnosed with kidney stones, but after several months and no relief, he ended up in the Emergency Room and was diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the Liver. He did not, and never did, have kidney stones.
This got the ball rolling with Christopher seeing many doctors and he was sent to the Mason Transplant Center at Piedmont Atlanta where he got a wonderful Hepatologist who we really like and feel like he has Christopher's best interest at heart. The first time we were there, we were told that it could be 10 years before a transplant was needed and we were hoping that was true. Blood was drawn (a lot of blood!) and about 2 weeks later, we got a phone call that Christopher was born with an autoimmune disease called PRIMARY BILIARY CHOLANGITIS. This disease attacks the bile ducts and therefore deprives the liver of the necessary bile that it needs to do its job and therefore had destroyed Christopher's liver. This disease is rare and is seen in 5 times more women than men. Per the doctor, usually it makes itself known in women in their 50s and 60s and the women take medications and they are then fine. Unfortunately, Christopher's was not found in time before it had destroyed his liver resulting in him needing a transplant in order to live.
As I said, we were hoping that Christopher had about 10 years before he needed a transplant, however, all of a sudden, his liver decided that it would just stop working about 3 months after we were told that. In April 2023, we were told that if they took Christopher's liver out of him and placed it in a 50 year old man, that man would not survive. The only thing Christopher has going for him is his age.
So now it begins....we are going down the transplant path. Liver transplant surgery costs anywhere between $850,000 and $950,000, of which we are responsible for a great deal of this. There are anti-rejection medications that have to be taken for the rest of Christopher's life in order to live. These medications are very expensive. He is a lot of medication right now in order to stay alive. They are also very expensive.
Christopher has not worked since May 12, 2023 due to his illness and although we have applied for disability, we have been told that they are behind on claims up to a year. He will be out of work for quite some time - possibly up to 2 years after the surgery. He will still have doctor co-pays for the many doctors keeping him alive and well. He will also have a house payment, household bills, insurance premiums, child support, vehicle and household maintenance, and anything else related to everyday living.
As a bachelor, there is no second income to help him, so anything that you can find on your heart to contribute would be greatly appreciated and put to good use. God Bless.
