HOUSTON – Harris County sheriff’s deputies said they are investigating a hit-and-run that killed a teen in west Harris County Thursday morning.

Deputies said the crash happened at around 2:36 a.m. when the 16-year-old victim was riding a BMX bicycle with his friend in the 2500 block of Greenhouse Road.

According to deputies, the victim was operating the BMX bicycle equipped with reflectors, but no lights northbound in the inside lane nearest to the inside curb when an unknown suspect operating a 2014 to 2016 four-dour Mazda 6, which was also gray in color, struck him from behind. Deputies said the victim was projected into a grassy median.

Deputies said the Mazda is missing the driver’s side housing and mirror, front-left plastic wheel well, and front left side of the bumper cover. According to HCSO, the Mazda may also have some green LED undercarriage lighting.

Deputies said the victim died at the scene and the witness sustained no injuries. The crash is under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
