Christopher John Emmons was a very special young man who passed away at the age of 24 and is deeply missed. To honor him and keep his memory alive, his family would like to install a bench beneath the beautiful oak tree where he took his final rest.
Our Christopher loved the outdoors and spent as much time as he could in the presence of woods, water and wildlife. He had a congenital heart condition which was being monitored, but apparently had gotten worse than anyone realized. On Sunday August 25, 2019, he went for an afternoon hike on one of the trails by the Highland Park reservoir and paused to rest underneath a majestic oak tree, where he was later found dead.
He was deeply passionate about the people and things he loved which included family, friends, fishing, skiing, hiking, sustainable gardening and designing systems that would solve problems. He put his creative mind at the disposal of all around him and developed connections with a diverse mix of people.
Chris had a beautiful spirit with a strong moral compass and was always determined to do the right thing. He put himself through school, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Akron in May 2019, and had just completed his first semester in a Master’s program.
A contribution of any size is greatly appreciated and will go towards the $2,500 cost of installation of the memorial bench with cement pad and 10 years of maintenance. If we exceed our goal, the remaining funds will be donated to the American Heart Association in Chris's name. Chris always believed in the healing power of nature to refresh one’s spirit and bring peace - and this bench would provide a place for others to do just that.
