Christopher Betts: Forever in Our Hearts

Hello, my name is Ron Betts, and I sincerely appreciate you taking a moment to read my story. My wife and I just experienced the worst nightmare for any parent, finding out that our only beloved son, Christopher, passed away in his sleep. We found him Friday morning.

The pain and heartache are indescribable. He was our life, and we can't imagine our lives without him. Christopher was a calm, polite, always respectful, endearing, and gentle soul. He loved people, cherished animals, loved nature, and wanted to preserve the environment. He was a college student with many dreams and aspired to learn many languages. Our family is small, and while we only have each other, we are also very thankful for our circle of friends who have been supportive beyond words.

Personally, I have been struggling with a rare neurological disease called myasthenia gravis, and was just hospitalized for 3 weeks, most of the time in the intensive care unit. Since my discharge at the end of April, Christopher had been my rock in my physical and emotional recovery. He was always there for us and now we feel so helpless because we can no longer care for him and protect him. We love and miss him so much. It is very hard to be in the house with all the memories.

We are a small family going through financial hardship and have been struggling due to the costs associated with my disease. My wife and I both work and our respective employers, for whom we have worked for many years, are very understanding and supportive. They have become our family. I have been out of work without income since Easter and the bills keep piling up. With the traumatic loss of our son Christopher just days ago, coupled with my recent hospitalization just three weeks ago, my wife and I are in severe emotional distress. Not only are we grieving the loss of our child, we are also simultaneously trying to find ways to pay for Christopher’s funeral and my medical bills. We are simply and completely overwhelmed. As you can imagine, this is nothing we could have prepared for.
