Dear Old Friends, New Friends, and Friends I have not yet met,
This year the stock market hit record highs. The national unemployment rate is low. Good news for all, right? I wish it was true for far too many struggling Long Islanders.
Homeless shelters across the island are at capacity. Wages have been stagnant and inflation is challenging low income families to meet basic needs of housing, food, medical care and utilities.
This is our 34th Christmas Magic year. Every year we get earlier requests for help and this year was no exception. Some agencies have doubled the number of kids they are submitting.
I’m often asked “Santa, how do you do all this?” and I smile and answer “I don’t do it. My friends do. The people who know how important this is do it. The people who know the magic of a beaming child on Christmas morning do this”.
We bargain hunt and buy in bulk. We use coupons. We do lots of toy drives. Why? Because I don’t want to EVER turn down a child in need.
This season, would you consider putting aside your personal want, an extra present you may not really need, that one extravagance—and help me put that smile on the face of one of our beautiful Long Island kids. I promise you--it will be a holiday you will never forget.
I know how big your heart is, it is that heart that has driven “Magic” for all these years. Can I count on you to help make those memorable Christmas morning smiles happen?
