Gardendale High School has been helping spread Christmas cheer for many years. “Toys for Tots” was the Christmas project for many years. In December 1990, GHS decided to sponsor families without the assistance of “Toys for Tots”. That year the Student Government Association decided to name it Christmas Visions. Over twenty years later, we are still carrying on the tradition of giving. This annual program is still sponsored by student government, now called Gardendale High School Student Council (GSC). In 1990, $8000 was raised and last year we raised ver $40,000.
We sponsor children at 12-15 local schools. We contact local school counselors, and the counselors choose their students that have the greatest need. We receive wish lists from the children, listing their needs and wants. The GSC members then go shop for the children and spend approximately $150-$200 per child, purchasing all needs first, then wants. The toys are then delivered by the members of GSC to their schools just in time for Christmas.
