What happened and how you can help
The morning after Christmas my family in East Wenatchee lost their home and most of their belongings to a devastating fire. My mom Missy, brother Kyler, 18, sister Paisley 16, Matty, 12, and cousin Chase, 18, escaped with their cats, dog and the clothes they were wearing. They lost their just-opened Christmas presents, pets —including two leopard geckos— clothes, computers, furniture, childhood memories and the warmth and comfort that a home brings.
The heat of the fire coming from the ceiling woke up my brother Kyler who alerted everyone in the house. He helped get them out safely as they watched their home of eight years and their belongings consumed by the fire.
They did not have insurance and will have to start over.
In this season that reminds us how important it is to give and to help others please donate what you can to help them start over. Any donation you make will go to help them find housing, remove and dispose of the trailer (they still have to pay rent on the lot), and begin the process of starting over. It is a critical time for them and they need all the help they can get.
Who are you helping?
My mom Missy is a single mother and teacher at Rock Island School, raising three kids and helping with my cousin.
My Brother Kyler is 18 and just got his GED. His bedroom was gutted by the fire and he lost everything.
My sister Paisley, 16, is in high school and taking college courses. Her computer was destroyed in the fire. She is also an avid seamstress and lost her sewing machine.
My brother Matty, 12, lost his Christmas presents and his clothes.
My cousin Chase, 18, just recently moved in to help the family and get back on his feet.
This is what the interior of the house looked like after the December 26th fire.
