Daniel (Dan) Jonathan Smith, 50, passed away late evening, peacefully at home after a long battle with colorectal cancer on Thursday January 2, 2025.

Dan was born January 1, 1975 in Garden City Michigan and was raised in Westland Michigan. He attended Eastern Michigan University pursuing a degree in criminal justice, before ultimately deciding on a career as a general contractor. In the 20 years of owning his own construction and remodeling business he forged relationships and friendships with countless clients. Dan's wife Melissa entered his life when he was introduced to her by his boss/close friend and her sister and brother in-law in 2000. On June 22, 2002 they married and started their beautiful life together in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The two remained inseparable ever since. On October 16, 2011, and August 8, 2014, he welcomed his children, who were the light of his life and his reason.

Dan was a devoted father and a supportive husband. He was active all his life, enjoying everything from karate, swimming, volleyball, hockey and mountain biking with his friends and children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching Lions football and Red Wings Hockey, vacationing with his wife, and building everything he could. He loved attending and supporting his children at their soccer games. His legacy remains the incredible house he built for his family. Dan was known for his positive attitude and outlook on life. He had an uncanny ability to take any situation, and find the best in it and would do anything for anyone.

Dan is survived by his wife of 22 years, Melissa and children, Emmit (13), Lileigh (13) and Colton (10). He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 11th from 12pm-5pm at Cobblestone Farm at 2781 Packard St. Ann Arbor MI 48108. Appetizers and desserts will be provided. We invite anyone who is interested in speaking on the impact Dan had on their life and or stories you'd be willing to share.
