Help Lay to Rest the Christmas Carol Mom

Heaven has gained a true angel on Dec. 22nd, Morgan M. Freeman! My mom didn't have much, I don't even know where to start. Right now we are trying to raise money to properly give my mom a resting place and take care of the tremendous remaining medical bills (private care) and obligations that added up while she was here under my care.

Her smile could light up a room and she had a sparkle in her eye that never stopped twinkling. Our mom was one of a kind. She was the Christmas Carol Mom whose dying wish was to hear Christmas carolers outside her window knowing she wouldn't make it to Christmas. She truly loved music. Dozens of random strangers gathered outside in the cold rain in front of my home days before Christmas and gave her the serenading of a lifetime! It was a true Christmas Miracle!

Our mom spent most of her life building walls and pushing people away. She was alone in Maine for nearly 20 years by choice. We didn't have many family photos if any at all, no one did. We didn't do big loving holidays or family gatherings with her something was always broken and sad and missing.

When I unexpectedly made the decision to bring my mom home to finish her remaining days here with me and my 2 boys in my small apartment instead of in a hospital bed in Maine, alone, it wasn't easy. An entire lifetime of trauma and hurt came crashing down on me and all of a sudden I was changing diapers and providing around-the-clock 24/7 care to someone who I felt never really cared for me. All of this while simultaneously being a single mom to 2 boys, just moving into a new apartment and starting a new job all while on welfare. It was awful. I was lost and I felt really alone at times but then this beautiful community came in to support me, guide me, and love my mama.

You all loved us through this. We weren't hurting alone. We weren't forgiving alone. We weren't fighting or figuring it all out alone and We certainly were no longer healing alone. You all showed up and helped me give my mom the best finals weeks and days of her life. You all became her people. Her tribe. Her village. She never really had one before. We laughed together. Cried together. Sang together.

My mom felt so so so so so special and loved up until the very end. We have photos upon photos of smiles where we would have never had any memories just forgotten conversations and leftover resentment and regret. We made genuine, authentic family moments had sing-alongs pajama parties, margaritas, Hawaiian beaches, pineapple trees, and so many amazing meals together.

She wasn't scared. She wasn't lonely. She wasn't by herself. She knew we loved her and forgave her and it was never too late to right wrongs. She sang and danced and had her brandy and cigarettes and watched HSN and enjoyed a tremendous amount of wonderful heartfelt surprises from you all. My community. You gave me and my family and my mom priceless memories we could have never experienced that she spent a lifetime avoiding. She opened her heart to you all and you broke down those walls and you did not disappoint!

Heaven welcomes a true Queen! Morgan M Freeman! We honor, cherish and love you, you have taught us all so much up until the very end. Mostly about the true power of God, love, and forgiveness.

A foundation will be started in our mom's memory by my twin sister and me, Briana Azier. This foundation will be called MORGAN'S WISHES! Morgan's Wishes will help assist families going through the emotional and financial difficulties of in-home, end-of-life care with little help or assistance. One thing for sure is that my moms' end of her life was the best days of her life, but we could have never done it alone. We intend to help make families facing similar trials and circumstances help their loved ones' final days be memorable! We hope to bring in-home and community support to families in all the small ways that count the way you all did for our mom! IT TRULY TAKES A VILLAGE!
