Christine's medical fund
Donation protected
Christine has been helping to raise children in the city of Cambridge for the past 23 years where she has served as the director of The Cambridgeport Afterschool Program Inc., (CAPI). My daughter has been going to CAPI for 3 years, and she loves Christine, just like every other student at CAPI.
Eight years ago Christine was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease, (PKD). PKD is progressive and incurable. It causes clusters of cysts to grow inside the kidneys. As these cysts enlarge from fluid buildup, kidney failure can result. Unfortunately, Christine’s cysts are rapidly growing and her kidneys are losing function. She is now in need of a kidney transplant. Christine was placed on the national kidney transplant list in August 2015, and is awaiting a deceased donor kidney, but this list is 80,000 names long, and the wait time for a deceased donor kidney is eight years or more.
I am trying to raise money for Christine to help defray some of the costs affiliated with her impending kidney transplant. Christine does have health insurance, but there are numerous expenses that both Christine and her donor will endure before and after their surgeries; many of which her insurance will not cover.
Below is a list of some of the expected costs pre/post transplant surgery:
* Pre-transplant evaluations and testing
* Extensive dental work (required for cardiac clearance)
* Post-Op physical therapy and rehab
* Costly anti-rejection medications
* Lost wages for Christine’s donor, (out of work up to month) lost wages for Christine, (out of work for up to 2 months) and lost wages for Christine’s husband (out of work for up to a month to take care of her)
* Numerous (3/wk. first month alone) post-op doctors visits and ongoing treatment
Please help Christine to receive the very best care possible. The transplant process is long, complicated, and costly with escalating physician visits and labs leading up to the transplant, and the overwhelming care post-transplant. Your donation will help diminish the weight of financial burdens on Christine and her husband, and help her focus on a healthy recovery and a long life. We want her back at Afterschool as soon as humanly possible!
You can make a big difference with a large or small donation. Christine is a wonderful member of the community; a dedicated educator, and I feel extremely lucky to have her in my daughter's life. Let’s make sure she is able to continue her work with kids.
Thank you so much for your contribution. Help to spread the word and distribute this message to anyone and everyone you know.
