Christine's Cremation & Funeral

Donation protected
Christine lived with her step-son, Jerry, in East Nashville in the Shelby Hills neighborhood. She is 93 years old and has lived in her small rental house for over 30 years. A few years ago, Jerry moved in with Christine after her husband passed away to take care of her. They were a pleasant feature of our street in the summer as two smiling faces always waving on their front porch sitting on an old dismounted car seat watching the cars go by and the houses get built around them. Our neighborhood has helped in various ways, most notably their direct neighbors would drive them to doctors appointments, post office, and other errands, and eventually they became power of attorney for Christine. The whole street got together and pitched in some money to plant her a flower garden last year and this year for Mother's Day. Gradually Christine's health has been fading, she was unable to go outside anymore, and this year it got to the point that she could no longer go to the bathroom and wash herself, etc. Last week the decision was made to call hospice and this is where the story takes a tragic turn from normal problems we all face with age.Over the weekend, the hospice nurse came to prepare Christine who weighed only 80lbs. Jerry and her neighbor, acting as power of attorney, were asked to step outside while the nurse prepared Christine for transportation. Suddenly a loud commotion was heard from within the house and the nurse yelled for help. Christine had been dropped on her head.Christine is now in intensive care suffering from a fractured skull and internal bleeding. The accident created a bleak situation and the inevitable reality was decided today. There will be no recovery and she is in a morphine induced coma until her body fades from this world to the next. Our neighborhood is asking for a little help to offset the sudden financial burden placed on Jerry. Both Christine and Jerry were living on disability, Christine has no living relatives and Jerry's family situation is not ideal and his living situation has yet to be determined. We are asking for Nashville to show its true spirit of volunteerism and cash in a little pay it forward points to spread kindness to a stranger, a person in need. Thank you for whatever little help you can give.
