On August 13th, 2018 at approximately 6pm my mother, Christine Allen’s life was forever changed; she had a spontaneous hemorrhage within her left frontal lobe resulting in a detrimental and life-threatening buildup of blood and an increase in pressure within her brain. After being transported to the Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, and discovering the cause of her sudden unresponsive state, she was life flighted to Tampa where she eventually underwent a 3 hour brain surgery in order to save her life. Though alive her life was forever altered. For two weeks she was in the ICU, intubated, unconscious and restrained with an external ventricular drain (EVD) placed within her brain. Every day a battle to make it to the next. She overcame the odds and was able to be taken off of the ventilator after two weeks, and was later trached, and able to have her EVD removed. Her consciousness fluttered, only being aware for mere seconds before quickly returning to a coma like sleep. Due to her injury she is completely paralyzed on her right side, requiring a wheelchair and assistance for movement, as well as continuous physical and occupational therapy. She also suffers from Aphasia. She is able to think, and is aware of what she wants to say, but has trouble vocalizing the words and accurately conveying her needs, feelings and desires to others; often times her words are jumbled, or sound like gibberish. In order for her speech to improve and for her to make progress, she also requires continued speech therapy as they try to retrain her brain. Besides the extensive, possibly lifelong therapy sessions Christine needs, a new car that will be able to transport her and hold a wheelchair to get to and from therapy sessions, a CNA to stay with her during the day and take care of her basic needs while her family is away at work and school, as well as home improvements, such as making a wheelchair accessible shower must be done to provide her with the best quality of life and care that she needs and deserves. We have applied for all the grants, loans and financial assistance programs we have found, searching for aid for over two months to little avail, we are desperately searching for a way to care for a woman, wife, mother and friend who means more to us than words could ever convey . Christine has always been a compassionate, driven, and overall incredible, strong woman who has taken care of others, and offered a hand or kind word to any one in need. This time she's the one that needs a kind word and a helping hand, we appreciate any help we can receive as we continue down this road to recovery. All money raised are going to be directly delivered to her husband, and my father, Brian Allen by me, Ashley Allen, and used to provide the needed equipment (wheelchair, hospital bed, hoyer lift etc.,) care (certified CNA, medication etc.) and therapies (physical/occupational/speech) to give my mother the best care possible.
