My Mom was a special education teacher. She taught hearing impaired children and was every single thing that was good in this world.
16 years ago this week, we said good-bye. There isn’t a day that I don’t think of her. I used to be broken, angry, and everything in between. I still feel all those things today but I’ve also learned to smile and just be forever thankful for how lucky I was to be raised by such an incredible woman.
When I got myself into trouble as a kid (which was quite often), she used to say “Remember who you are.” All these years later, I’ve found so much of Yoga is exactly that - remembering who we’ve always been. I know I have her to thank for everything I’m able to “remember.”
To honor her and the community she served, this summer I’m leading a series of 30 minute Yoga workshops. The workshop topics will be anything from Asana pose breakdowns, movement and mobility practices, joint preparation, band work, breathing, etc.
Every dollar we raise will go towards the memorial scholarship fund in her name that is awarded each year to a graduate of schools on Long Island receiving services from Eastern Suffolk Boces.
Thank you for your support and stay tuned for the workshop details - I’m so excited and thankful to use this work to honor her memory.
