Christine Kane Needs Our Support

My name is Lisa Larter and I am fundraising for my dear friend Christine Kane.
Christine lived by the river in Asheville and during hurricane Helene lost her home and a rental property she owned on the same street.
In my naïveté I said to her that someday she might be able to rebuild, or sell the land and she said "Lisa, it's gone. All of it is gone, both of the houses and the land."
If you know Christine, you've likely heard the cockroach story. The one when she was a traveling musician, staying in not so nice hotels, that ran across her face one night while sleeping.
She is a fighter. She has invested in herself and fought hard for everything she has and she has given back to a global community on a scale most people can't grasp. She has helped tens if not hundreds of thousands of people to up level their life and business.
Christine is hurting deeply right now.
She won't ask anyone for help much less money. While she is grateful that her and her dog and kitties are alive, her heart is shattered from the loss of life in her neighborhood, the loss of her home and all of her personal possessions.
She is grieving deeply for herself and for others who have also experienced this loss.
My goal with this fundraiser is for us to uplift Christine, to show her she does not have to do this alone. That we care about her, value her and want to help her through this journey.
This event was devastating, and the journey to rebuild is filled with stress and it's own set of difficulties:
- you have to worry about what you will do next every day (do you know what the steps are to rebuild, who to call, what to do etc.?) and relive the trauma you just went through over and over again until you are finally settled into a home of your own with some sense of normalcy.
- you have to itemize every single thing you owned for the insurance company and keep receipts for everything you buy and hope that they will cover some of the expenses you're now having to endure
- you have to wait and wait for insurance adjustors to call you back (this takes weeks), come and see you (can take a month or longer) and then hope and pray your insurance company will treat you well and compensate you fairly for what your home and contents were worth
- you have to wait and hope FEMA comes through for you. They are not there on day one handing out money and finding folks places to live.
- you have to grieve your loss over and over again each day while feeling guilty that your situation isn't as "bad" as someone else's
- you have to find friends, family and colleagues who will help you in the immediate moment, while many places in Asheville still don't have power and water, and then you have to find friends, family and colleagues who will be with you long term
What happened in Asheville is catastrophic. My heart breaks for Christine and others who were impacted by this storm every day.
Please help me help someone who has helped so many other people in this world. She needs our love and financial support to weather the storm that is now her life. These funds will be given directly to Christine to help her rebuild and start again.
