Christine and Mirko

Hi, my name is Karen Evans and on June 4th, 2018, I received the tragic news from Mirko about Christine. She has a brain tumour. A very serious one indeed.
In the fall of 1978, I met the most interesting and exciting woman I'd ever met and she became a very dear friend to me then and still is today - 40 years later! Along the way, she married her high school sweetheart and I was then privileged to meet her dear, lovely Mirko. Later when I married Steve, the four of us became friends and we have deepened our friendship over several decades to the point where we consider Christine and Mirko to be, not only good friends, but family.
So it was with saddened hearts that we received this news. Immediately, we wanted to help them anyway we could. We cooked some meals, did some gardening, visited, hugged and held hands. We need to do more and this fund is another way we want to help them.
In mid-July, Christine will begin a series of treatments consisting of radiation and chemotherapy to help shrink the tumour as it is inoperable. She will undergo 3 to 4 weeks of radiation and chemo with a two day break between. This means Christine, Mirko and Denise (her sister) will live in Victoria for this time, but will be able to go home for several 2 day breaks.
The reality is that the expenses they will incur will be significant and not covered by medical services. It is our desire to ease the financial burden for Christine and Mirko so they can concentrate on the task ahead which is her treatment and recovery. The last thing they both need to worry about is money. Raising some for them, to lessen the expenses and the worry, therefore is paramount.
When we heard this news, all we wanted to do was help out in any way we possibly could. I am sure other folks want to help out as well but might not be able to because of distance and/or other personal circumstances and need an avenue to do so. We started thinking about a solution to both of these needs - the need to relieve the financial burden and the human need to help others.
Please donate what you can to their situation which will help them to focus solely on the treatments and recovery process. They have quite a journey ahead of them so any and every amount will be truly appreciated. This will be a blessing to them and deeply needed.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
