Tin Tin sustained a hemorrhagic stroke on the night of April 5th. A massive bleed in her brain was found and an MRI confirmed severe damage to the parts of her brain that control functions required for basic survival. At about 4:20pm, Easter Sunday, Christina "Tin Tin" Castillo gained her wings at the young age of 38, in the presence of her loving family, at Rhode Island Hospital.
Words cannot really express the insurmountable pain and devastation rippling through everyone who has ever been touched by Tin Tin's presence. She has always been remembered for her beaming smile and infectious laugh. She was taken from this world too soon but her memories and impact will live on through the love of her family and friends. A woman of tenacity, resilience, and fortitude, Tin Tin has had her fair share of struggles but she always came out even stronger than ever. She was a "fly by the seat of your pants" kind of woman who wanted to try and excel at everything. She had worn many hats throughout her life, including being a cement mason, working at a biopharmaceutical company, being an environmental tech for TF Green Airport, logistical facilitator at Alex and Ani, and most recently being a telecommunication specialist for Granite Technologies. Most notable for Tin Tin was how proud she was of her service in the military. She was in the National Guard from 2006 to 2012 and is also an Iraq War Veteran.
Unfortunately, due to the sudden and tragic way Tin Tin passed, her benefits from her current employer did not kick in for this unanticipated death, leaving our parents to pay for her funeral and hospital expenses out of pocket. As Tin Tin's younger sister, I have started a funeral fundraiser to help cover the cost of her funeral expenses. The least I can do to honor my sister is to give her a proper burial and lessen my parents' burden that has already been created by the loss of their eldest daughter. I thank you for all your continued support and prayers as we continue to navigate this difficult journey. We love you all.
