Christina Maenza Medical Bills

Donation protected
On May 2nd, 2019, my 16-year-old sister Christina was in a horrific and life-changing car accident. She was driving in a Toyota Corolla and was T-boned by an F150 travelling on Route 29 in Bealeton, Virginia. It is an absolute miracle that Christina is alive today. She suffered multiple injuries and was emergency-flown by helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where she has received incredible care. After multiple surgeries, examinations, a whole lot of stubbornness, and the grace of God, Christina continues to fight. Just yesterday, doctors decided that Christina was ready to have her breathing tube removed. She is now also able to squeeze her physical therapists hand and briefly open her eyes when prompted. Christina has made amazing progress and doctors are hopeful that sometime next week, she can start rehab via specialized physical and brain therapy.

Christina is a wonderful young woman with a bright future ahead of her. She is a straight-A student and aspires to attend an Ivy League college. She is an extremely talented artist and an avid Supernatural fan.

First and foremost, we are so thankful that Christina is alive today and continues to make baby steps in a positive direction. Christina has a long road ahead of her, and we are optimistic because we know how strong and resilient this girl is!

Between the helicopter transfer, hospital care, and upcoming rehab, we expect that my parents will be burdened with extremely high medical bills. We are starting this Gofundme fundraiser in hopes to alleviate some of the financial burden that they are about to undertake. We want to let them focus solely on helping Christina in her recovery, and not worry about the bills to come.

Thank you so much to everybody for the continued support and prayers. It means the world to us to have such great family and friends by our side during this difficult time.

Please note that Christina's siblings created the Gofundme using our Dad's name, so that it would be easier for him and our mom to withdraw the money when the time comes. That is why the write up refers to Christina as our sister, while the account is in Dad's name! Just in case it looked confusing.

Christina’s high school principal forwarded one of her recent assignments to my parents. We would like to share a little bit of her work:

Personal Anti-Bias/Hatred/Prejudice/Discrimination Creed

I will…

I will remember to keep others in mind at all times,
And not think solely about my own well-being.
I will strive to bring happiness to those around me,
because those few extra smiles can light up the world.
I will remind myself that everyone must always work together,
and to be able to both give help and accept it in return.

I will be helpful and insightful,
and always hear both sides of an argument instead of just one.
I will speak my mind when I believe it is needed,
and I will not criticize those who disagree with me.
I will aid others in overcoming any obstacles they may face,
and in achieving their goals.

I will never attack any person or any group of people,
regardless of their skin tone or nationality,
regardless of their hair or eye color,
regardless of their religion or culture.
I will treat everyone based upon the quality of their character,
and this alone.

I will encourage people in their endeavors,
but more importantly,
I will encourage people to be themselves.
I will let people know that it is okay to be different,
which is limited not only to physical attributes but personality as well,
because our quirks are what make us unique,
and who wants a world full of clones?

Let this be a “firebell in the night”,
that joy and peace should wash across the coutry,
and that society will finally be united as one, despite their difference;
the people.
