Christina is almost home! In just a few short weeks, Christina has made extraordinary progress in her recovery. Monday of last week, the doctors implanted an AICD (Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) in her heart. Based on her doctors' asssessment of her current situation, they are optimistic that her need for a heart transplant is no longer certain or imminent. Since her heart procedure last week, Christina made such great strides, such as breathing, eating, and walking on her own, that she was moved from Seton Hospital to the Central Texas Rehab facility in Austin. Christina is still on a dialysis schedule three times a week for the foreseeable future, and prayers are needed for a full recovery of her kidneys. We hope she will be home within the next few days with her family and continuing her recovery. Our girl is back!
Christina and her family are still in need of our continued financial and emotional support as they continue to focus their time and energy on restoring her health, getting her back home, and determining a path forward for their family.
*Update as of 06/13/2023*
Christina is currently weaned from sedation and is further being weaned from the ventilator and oxygen through her tracheostomy. She will soon start speech therapy and therapy to assess how well she can swallow and move forward with trying to eat. While her kidneys have improved, she has regularly had dialysis since the incident and will continue to need dialysis for the foreseeable future. With respect to her heart, her care team is assessing various implant options to improve her current condition until she can receive a heart transplant. We are praying for Christina’s continued improvement so that she can be moved out of the ICU and finally see her 4-year-old daughter, Holden, after five long weeks of being apart.

Christina “C Good”Brookbank has been fighting for her life. Her 4-year-old daughter, Holden, husband John, parents, and extended family and friends are fighting for her, too. Christina went into cardiac arrest behind the wheel while sitting at a red light on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, in Austin. A nurse (read “HERO” and “ANGEL”) in the vehicle behind her immediately assessed her situation, pulled her from the vehicle, and began CPR, which lasted for 40 MINUTES before a pulse returned. Miraculously, Christina is ALIVE, has had an unbelievably positive brain activity scan, and has been responsive to questions from family and hospital staff. She is now in the ICU at Ascension Seton Medical Center. Christina was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, a severe heart condition. She will require extensive treatment and it will be very expensive. Much is unknown, but at this point, Christina's medical team anticipates she will have a long and unpredictable recovery and will require a heart transplant in the near future. Continued support for Christina and her family is needed. Christina's community of friends and loved ones have met this challenge by offering prayers, preparing meals, arranging play-dates and child care, and more. However, as we have learned more about Christina's long road to recovery and future medical needs, the need for financial support for the family has grown. As a small business owner (#freshfloral) and now unable to work for the foreseeable future, Christina and her family need the care and support through your generous donation that the family can apply to areas most needed so that they can focus solely on her recovery. Wherever this request finds you and your ability to help, EVERY contribution large or small is deeply appreciated and will be a Godsend to the Brookbanks. Thank you for your consideration.
