On Wednesday June 16, 2020 Christina went to the ER at Sylvan Grove Hospital with pain in her right side. A few hours and tests later, they found a 6 cm mass on her adrenal gland. She was transferred to Atlanta Medical for more tests. Since her initial ER visit she has had countless tests, scans, and blood drawn to determine a diagnosis. She was discharged from the hospital believing the tumor was benign. She began taking medication to prepare her body for a surgery that would remove it. Exactly a month later, July 16, she was in unbearable pain once again and was admitted to Atlanta Medical. AMC transferred her to Kennestone for a specialist to perform surgery on the tumor. The tests and blood work revealed something was off with her platelets. In order to conduct further investigation, a bone marrow biopsy was done. The bone marrow biopsy showed cancer in her bone marrow. Christina was moved to CHOA, where she is currently, and diagnosed with Neuroblastoma.
Neuroblastoma is a rare pediatric tumor which usually affects children under the age of 5. Christina had her first round of chemotherapy Friday July 31, followed by a full body scan to determine if the cancer has spread anywhere else. Over the course of the next year and a half she will undergo chemo, radiation, and stem cell treatments .
Since June, Christina has been admitted to 4 hospitals, has had 3 ambulance rides, and numerous procedures conducted. Unfortunately, medical expenses add up extremely quickly, not to mention whatever may come up in the future. We recognize that COVID-19 has affected everyone but we are asking for any type of donations to help Christina and her family during this extremely difficult time in their lives.
Additionally, a non-profit organization, Caring for a Cause, is hosting a one pitch softball tournament in her name in October. If you’d like to make a team to participate, donate money, or donate gifts for their awesome raffles please check out their Facebook page “Caring for a Cause”!
If are unable to donate here or through Caring for a Cause, prayers and positive thoughts are extremely appreciated as she has a very long road ahead of her. You can also send her a smile gram through Scottish Rite! Christina is a fighter and exceptionally strong, there is no doubt that with all the support backing her she will beat this.
I will provide updates here as they come. Thank you all!
