Christie’s ICU Battle: A Mom, Fighter, & Miracle in Progress

A few weeks ago, Mom, Dad and Ryder went on a church trip to retrace Paul’s second missionary journey in Greece. Halfway through the trip, mom became very ill with food poisoning that led to kidney failure and trauma to the liver. She has been in ICU in Athens, Greece, since June 25, receiving intensive care—including IV antibiotics, lots of testing, and two rounds of dialysis.

Originally, it was understood that the travelers insurance was going to pay for all medical needs here. We have since discovered that was not the case; it capped out at $25,000. That has been exceeded and far more. Many of you have asked how you can help. Mom needs ongoing treatment here until she is well enough to be medically flown to Vanderbilt for continued care. We are also hopeful the flight can be covered by insurance. Until then, her care and expenses continue in Greece. Dad has been accessing cash and credit cards as quickly as he can; however, the bills continue to accumulate. Unfortunately, because we are in a private hospital this is a pay-as-you-go daily scenario. We are asking for assistance to pay for her medical bills in Greece, along with the continued expense Dad is incurring to stay in a foreign country, as he is unable to stay at the hospital. Last Saturday, Mom’s condition worsened and the doctors were questioning the outcome. Ellie (me), Holley and Ana flew to Greece to see our mom. The Lord moved and spared her life. We have seen him move in miraculous ways and for that we are so thankful. She is a fighter but has quite the battle ahead of her. If you can help, that is wonderful.
