Kristi's kidney fundraiser
Donation protected
I met Kristi at Highmark tattoo shop in Lynnwood Washington a few years ago. Although I had heard about her, the person I met was not the person I had envisioned.
The reason I had known of her was because my friend used to talk about her due to and awful illness that befell her. After eating some deli chicken she ended up completely paralyzed. The chicken had the Bacteria Campylobacter Jejuni that caused Guillain-barre syndrome paralysis. We can save that story for another day.
I guess I imagined I would meet a frail poor soul in a wheelchair. Unable to do anything for herself. totally dependent upon the kindness and charity of others She came rollin into the tattoo shop one night and I was blown away by what a bad ass she is. A women completely independent. A woman who had fought her way back from not being able to talk, use her hands, feed herself, drive a car, cook for herself, walk her dog...really everything we all take for granted.
It put things into perspective for me.
Fast forward to now.....again Kristi is gifting me with perspective.
After all she has been through, she now finds herself in need of a kidney. She has Focal Segmental Glomerulsclerosis which is a disease in which scar tissue develops on parts of the kidney that filter waste from the blood. She is type O blood and although she is on a donor list, doesnt hurt to ask if someone would be willing to donate a kidney.
The need for the GoFundMe fundraiser is to get her funds for the 24 hour care for up to 1 month she will need after the surgery. Kristi is still in a wheelchair so cannot care for herself after a kidney transplant. She is unable to get help from family due to the fact that her father is dying of cancer and her mother suffers from dementia. Just to add to the heartache.
Imagine being Kristi....being a strong willed capable human, dealt a lousy hand, confined to a wheelchair, failing kidneys and an insurance policy that doesnt cover after care.
Please help Kristi! Please find a place in your hearts to help this woman that has been such an inspiration to me.
Thank you!!!
