I am first and foremost requesting your prayers and ask that even if you cannot help financially, to please share this with others. If God wants this to happen, it will happen. It just has to get to the right people.
I’m a disabled 40 year old with severely progressed Muscular Dystrophy, in a wheelchair, dependent on a ventilator through a trach. By the grace of God, I am one of the oldest people with my type of Muscular Dystrophy, Emery Dreiffuss. My father lives with me. He’s a 69 year old Veteran with severe diabetes who in November 2014 and January 2015 suffered massive strokes leaving him with problems with his speech, memory, and walking.
I am barely getting by financially with not just daily living expenses but excessive medical expenses as well. I've recently been hit with several large expenses that I still need to figure out how to pay. $4200 school taxes, $1000 water heater, $600 training new employees. However, the item of most urgency is my house generator. Back on June 25th during a major storm, our generator stopped working and required emergency service. The bill for the repair wasn't received until September 30th which is $1065.25. During the generator repair and with several second and third opinions, I was informed that the generator has to be replaced because it is 15 years old and replacement parts are no longer available. It no longer switches on automatically when the power goes off. The muffler needs to be replaced but it would cost over $1,000 itself. It has repeatedly stopped working and not only are replacement parts no longer available but service companies will no longer service it saying there is nothing they can really do.
This generator is desperately needed immediately because I am essentially on life support with my ventilator as well as airway suction machine and several other required medical devices including breathing treatments, wheelchair charger, transfer lift, etc. This is in addition to all my every day hourly needs. Any loss of power requires the need to go to the hospital. This is an extremely difficult and potentially painful process. Medicare will not allow me to use my own attendants in the hospital but they are the only ones that can read my lips (the trach prevents me from physically speaking) and they also know how to move my severely constricted body due to the Muscular Dystrophy. Being hospitalized for more than a few hours would also require being lifted into the bed which is an extremely painful process when not done with my motorized lift. The additional problem exists that if the power goes out for a longer length of time, it is because of severe weather which would make getting to the hospital a very difficult task.
The bottom line, this winter is expected to be bad which necessitates the generator be put in this year before the ground freezes. But more urgently, I desperately need it as soon as humanly possible because we have already lost power several times in just the last few months since it stopped working in the storm. I've been working on getting the generator replaced for months but have not gotten far except for getting estimates. I plead for your assistance in helping me replace this generator right away.
I have received two estimates so far with the lowest one being $11,112 for the generator, platform, relay switch, and other associated expenses. I already had a third company come out to assess for possibly a smaller/cheaper generator but this process has already taken several months so while waiting for their offical estimate, I wanted to get this started so most of the funds are available once the updated estimate comes in. I will then hopefully be able to adjust the goal amount if the estimate is lower.
I have attached pictures of the bill for the generator repair, as well as the currently lowest estimate to replace the generator. Though I believe I will be able to get a smaller/cheaper generator, this will give you an idea of what is involved.
PLEASE forward to people, organizations, or companies who may be able to help make this happen as soon as possible. Though I completely trust that God is in control, there is no bigger fear than when I am reliant on a ventilator and the power goes out. So I ask for your prayers, especially that this finds its way to the right people. I don't have much time to get this before winter.
