You may have read Christian's letter explaining what's been going on in his life. His letter really spoke to me and I can't just sit here and do nothing. I decided to start this go fund me page in hopes of helping Christian.
I have seen first hand how our team can come together to help out a fellow member and I'm hoping to capture some of that magic.
Let me first say that I have never done anything like this before. I will take any kind of help to get this goal done. I personally don't know Christian that well but I don't want that to be a road block. I don't know how I will get the proceeds of this fundraiser to him, but I will find a way.
What I do know is what it's like to be at your loved one's side while they battle a medical challenge. And the support I got from my Hornblower Family was really amazing.
So my wish is to raise some money for Christian and maybe lift a weight off his shoulders.
If you have not read his letter... it is pasted below.
"My Dear Friends,
All of you. I needed to take this time to write this while thinking of you.
I've been skulking around the vessels there while narrowly escaping your cheer and wanted to tell you why.
You see, my wife has passed away.
Her name is Robin Ritter.
She's been very ill the last few years.
She has had trouble with her kidneys and liver.
Hepatic renal failure is a fatal condition. It occurs when both organs cannot effectively remove waste from the blood stream and toxins occur along with compound infection complications.
Robin and I met in the fall of 1993 on an independent movie set. She was pursuing acting and I was studying film an LAVC. I invited her to participate in my thesis commercial in April of '94.
We've been together ever since.
The Crash of '08 brought hard times and changes. She was injured in an accident that caused a condition called vestibular dysfunction. It affects the balance of the person. We found ourselves surviving in Marina Del Rey when she fractured her spine in another related accident.
In 2012 we migrated to Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, then landed in Laguna Beach for two and a half years. The owner, accepting invitation to marry wished to return their household to a single family and we found ourselves here in San Diego.
I struggled to find work and was happy to land ashore Hornblower Cruises and Events.
Then we discovered Robin's condition and woke to a hopeful dawn of transplant miracle.
But it was not meant to be.
Robin died on a Friday afternoon. I was with her. Gentle rain and chimes played in the background of her favorite songs as my Sister and I spoke of her love for sailing.
I'd like to take this very special opportunity to thank each and every one of you, with all my heart, for the love, encouragement and growth that each and every one of you has been a part of.
I'd like to thank Mr. Durant, Mr. Schlert and Joey for hiring me. To my Stewarding Brothers and Sisters that showed kindness and patience with me as I learned your way. I'm so thankful for the leadership of our wise and brave vessel captains and operations crew that kept me safe so that I may carry out my duties and take care of my loved one.
I certainly cannot forget to thank the staff of the kitchens and culinary for their passion, energy and true spirit along with the all the staff in the administration that work so hard to bring us together and tend to the every day business with such precision and care.
I certainly hope to return and see you all once again.
Over the months I have accumulated various awards of confirmation and encouragement.
I have a half dozen or so Admiral Passes I was hoping to pass on to you. I was hoping to put them up for sale to anyone who could use them. I was hoping to get $100 (or so) each to assist me in unexpected costs. Burial arrangements, Legal Affairs and Travel expenses are costly and I'm afraid I just don't have cause to use them nor celebrate.
Any assistance with this would be most appreciated.
I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you how much I love you and thank each and every one of you for all your love and care.
