Christensen House Fire Relief

My name is Emily Henry and my husband DH and I work with Western Indian Ministries - a multi-faceted ministry on the Navajo Nation. One of my closest friends and language learning partner and her family have faced a massive tragedy. Meet the Christensens. We live outside Window Rock, AZ in a small town called Tse Bonito, NM. The Christensen's live in Hunter's Point, AZ, just on the other side of Window Rock.

Mark and Antoinette Christensen and their six children moved back to the Reservation in May 2017. That's when we met at Community Bible Church. Since then they have been reestablishing their life here, Mark as a potter and audio book narrator; Antoinette as a homeschooling mother and pottery sales manager. They began growing a aquaponic garden, increasing their livestock from sheep and horses by adding goats, pigs, fish, a goose, and other animals. They lead a full and entreprenurial life.

They've recently lost several animals due to severe weather, illnesses, but that all pails in comparison to the loss they faced in the early hours of the morning on Jan 5, 2018.

Around 2 am on Jan 5th a nightmare became reality for the Christensen's. Mark had been up late working when he came out of the house to find the front porch on fire. He woke up his oldest son and together, they got everyone out of the house safely. They believe the cause of the fire was from a heat lamp keeping a baby pig warm while it slept in the garden.  In the photo below, their daughter Nizhoni is standing where their garden once was.

Living in a somewhat remote area, it took the fire department a long time to arrive, and once they did, they had to send four trucks because the first two ran out of water, and the third got lost.

Their home and all their belongings inside it are gone. The house itself has no hope of being repaired, and is a total loss. The Christensen's dream would be to build a home that suits their family's unique needs. Please help get them back on their feet again and restore the things they lost.

Thankfully Mark's pottery studio is a separate building on their property so his pottery wasn't harmed. But many of the essential technology used for creating stamps and selling his work were lost in their house.

The following is a list of just some of the things they'll need:
