Melanoma is more than it mole- it is one of the deadliest cancers out there if it is not caught early. A lot of people do not realize this and assumed Christa would win this battle - we new the diagnosis was a death sentence. Christa wants that to change as the disease also took her grandmother. Christa's original diagnosis was shortly after we met and we bonded over it as I had the same experience, having melanoma surgically removed six years prior. All has been fine for me and all was fine for her until 30 months ago when a routine mammogram revealed a tumor that turned out to be melanoma that metastasized - Stage IV melanoma. Following initial treatment at Kaiser, Christa chose to get treatment at Emory Winship Cancer Institute where we met Dr. Melinda Yushak. Dr. Yushak and her tremendous team not only took exceptional care of us they did it with honesty, compassion and empathy.
In lieu of flowers, Christa has requested donations to support Dr. Yushak and other melanoma researchers at Winship so that one day stage IV melanoma doesn't have to be a death sentence. We will present the donations to Winship in Christa's honor following her celebration ceremony in early 2019.

Thank you in advance for helping Christa help others and don't forget to protect the skin you are in.
