Hi my name is Alicia. I am trying to raise money for one of the best people I know but let me tell a little story first.
In March of 2023, my godmother found a lump in her breast. She immediately went to get it checked out during which time, picking up clues from the nurses and doctors that this was most likely breast cancer. While waiting for official results, she decided to continue on with her trip back home.
The day she left to fly home, I unexpectedly gave birth to my first child 4 weeks and 3 days early. Consequently, my son had to spend the first 19 days of his life in NICU while his lungs developed. I could only have 6 visitors in the NICU and aside from the grandparents, she was the first person I thought of. If she wanted too of course. She immediately agreed and said she would be here for anything I needed. She sat with me in the NICU while my son grew. She delivered meals to our house so my husband and I had food to eat. She ran errands for us. She cleaned our house. She helped set up my son’s nursery. I’m sure there is more that I forgot or didn’t know about but that comfort she gave me as she sat with me when I felt so lost and unsure is something I will never forget.
In May, she had a double mastectomy and began Chemotherapy in July. As of December 12th, 2023 she has completed 13 infusions of chemo with 3 more to go and then has to go through radiation. She also had two unexpected trips to the emergency room when her white blood count was low.
She is a strong women who raised a great person and has dedicated her life to teaching children. She lives states away from me and I’ve struggled with how to help. I’m sure I’m not alone in that feeling.
She would also never ask this for herself! I hope we can raise enough money to help her feel a little less financially burdened at an already stressful time. Please consider donating. Any amount would be appreciated.
