Chrissie's Top Surgery Fund

Hi Everyone!

My name is Chrissie and I am a 23-year-old trans and genderqueer person (she/they/he). I am raising money to help me afford top surgery and support myself during recovery.

Anyone who knew me as a kid is probably not surprised. I've never been quite a girl but I'm certainly not just a boy. Even though I love living in this in-between space, for years I have struggled with horrible dysphoria around my chest. Every day is a battle knowing I'll be seen in a way that does not line up with who I am. The mental gymnastics needed to even leave the house are exhausting, let alone the physical means I’ve used for years to ease that distress. I bind and tape my chest daily, which can be extremely painful, uncomfortable and harmful. To me, this is a life-saving surgery.

After almost three years of trying, I finally got a surgery date for February 2026 and then a few weeks ago, I got a call letting me know that a date had opened up for May 7th! I am still in shock at how lucky I got and I am so profoundly grateful that this happened at a time when access to gender-affirming care seems to be vanishing.

While I see this abrupt acceleration of my timeline as the gift that it is, it has also left me with very little time to prepare. I will be out of work and in recovery for three weeks, unpaid for the first and on reduced pay for the last two. My insurance has agreed to cover part of the surgery, but I am still not sure how much, and I know I will have significant remaining financial responsibility to shoulder.

I will carry your love and support with me for the rest of my life and pour it back into my community, my loved ones, and the people who need it the most.

With that being said, any unused funds will be donated back to other trans people in need and organizations fighting for trans rights. Despite persistent uncertainty and attacks on our community, being queer and trans is still beautiful, and it makes me so proud to be human.
