My dear friend from childhood is in need of help.
Her husband has a congenital heart defect, and in the process of a corrective surgery, dealt with many complications, including acute kidney failure, a stomach bleed, fluid on his lungs.
The family has been in hotels/the hospital for over 2 months now, with their little girl (who is 2) in tow. They remain displaced and waiting for their husband and father to improve. Now my friend, Alida, must return to work, which only means more expenses in terms of childcare costs, coupled with the added burden of leaving their family member behind.
They are an average family like any of us who are in some tricky financial straights right now. If you can find it in your heart to help, I know it would be a miracle for them. They have accrued medical bills, hotel bills, dog boarding bills, and now extra childcare expenses.

We have now been here in Gainesville for 10 weeks. Christopher's surgery was over 2 months ago, plus pre-op appointments in the days prior.
We absolutely did not expect his recovery to take so long. Nobody plans for acute kidney failure and physical therapy. Nobody plans for chronic fluid on their lungs.
During the time we have spent here, Chris has spent most of his time in the ICU. His mother, Betty, has seldom left his side, as she is a Mama Bear and advocates for him when he is unable to. She has not been home since October. As for Anna and me, well, we have spent most of the time living in hotels. We have made a couple of trips home for a few days to refresh ourselves. Do laundry, check up on the house, get our mail (and Betty's mail), etc. Neither Chris nor I have worked since before Halloween. I'll be heading back to work after MLK, which means Anna will need to go to full time daycare, even though I only work part time.
