Help Chris Navarro and Family - Focus on Healing

Early this past July, Kamene Green's 48-year-old husband and father of two, Chris Navarro, went to the emergency room and has been hospitalized ever since. Chris was the family's sole provider as Kamene was working full-time on her nursing degree. Kamene now spends most of her time by his side at Stanford Hospital.

Chris went to the emergency room after feeling sick for a couple of weeks; symptoms that he assumed were caused by the flu. After a few tests, the doctor told him that he was severely anemic and missing 1/3 of his red blood cells. The doctor had no idea how he was standing, let alone walking. Chris began receiving blood transfusions and remained in the hospital while they performed more tests. A few days later, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and was in need of a bone marrow transplant. The cancer had spread throughout 90% of his body and he had to immediately start chemotherapy treatment. The first chemo did not work, however, and they had to use stronger chemo the second time. The second chemo treatment worked but due to the extreme strength of the drugs, Chris's skin blistered and began peeling off as if he was burned in a fire. This horrifying reaction to the treatment led to Chris being bedridden for a length of time. His muscles atrophied and he would have to learn to walk again.

Chris was blessed enough to find 4 bone marrow donors, one of which was close to a perfect match, per the medical staff at Stanford Hospital. This was the first miracle. The second miracle was when the cancer went into remission and he would receive the bone marrow transplant.

On November 16, 2016, Chris received a bone marrow transplant and everything was going as planned until Chris was sent to the ICU due to serious complications. Chris is now on dialysis and the Stanford doctors are working hard to figure out the right treatment to save his life. Making matters even worse, a few weeks before his surgery, their rental home caught fire and still needs a lot of work before it can once again be livable. The repairs are taking longer than expected and Chris will need a clean and safe place to live for month or so after he is released from the hospital.

Chris’s body and mind have both been weakened by the cancer and the chemo treatments and will need professional help to learn how to walk again and to restore his mind.

Please consider donating to help the family pay for medical and living expenses while they focus on regaining health and healing for Chris, and comfort and peace of mind for him, Kamene and the children. Please keep the Navarro and Green family in your prayers.

Thank you so much and Happy Holidays!
