Chris Koons' Bone Marrow Transplant
Donation protected
Chris Koons was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on March 24, 2017. She powered through three rounds of chemo and entered remission in November 2017 — but the leukemia has returned and she now needs a bone marrow transplant.
Her son Dustin is a half-match, and he will be her donor. "I gave him life," said Chris, "and now he is saving mine."
In October 2018, Chris will travel to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore — more than two hours from her home in Central Pennsylvania — to receive the transplant. Chris and a caregiver (her dad!) must stay close to Johns Hopkins for 67 days following her transplant, a cost that is not covered by insurance. Johns Hopkins offers discounted housing near the hospital for around $87 per night.
If we can rally 70 of Chris' friends to each donate the cost of one night, she'll have enough to cover her entire stay. Your gift can help give Chris and her family the peace of mind to focus on her recovery. Thank you.
