Chris was operating a PTO driven single row corn picker when the machine became clogged. Chris stepped off the tractor to check and clear the jam and was pulled into the auger which stalled the picker and tractor.
Chris was trapped in freezing temperatures before being found an hour later. Chris never lost consciousness and was able to instruct Emergency Responders on how to cut him out of the machine.
Chris was heavily entrapped when Emergency Personnel arrived. Chris was extracted from the machine within 40 minutes of arrival with the combined efforts of the Racine Fire Department, the Meigs County Sheriff's Office, and the Meigs County EMS.
MedFlight transported Chris to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV, where he was admitted to the ICU due to the extent of his injuries and the length of time he was exposed to freezing temperatures.
Chris suffered severe fractures to his right arm, wrist, and hand as well has severe fractures to his left leg, tibula, fibula, ankle, and foot. Chris remains a patient at the Trauma Center where he has undergone numerous reconstructive surgeries with many more scheduled. Chris will have to endure years of procedures and Rehabilitations before he regains full use of his right arm and left leg.
Chris and his longtime girlfriend Carly Good recently became engaged on November 5, 2017, and together recently purchased their first home outside of Dunkirk, OH. Carly has not left the Cabell Huntington Hospital since the accident. Carly is a Analyst at One Energy of Findlay, Ohio. Chris is employed by Southeastern Equipment Co. Inc, Headquartered in Cambridge, Ohio.
Chris is a Construction and Highway Equipment Salesman, beginning his career out of their Gallipolis, OH facility before transferring to their Perrysburg, Ohio location to be closer to Carly, the love of his life.
This tragic event could not have come at a worse time for this young couple as they were planning their wedding and had just started Mortgage payments on their new home where they are hoping to raise a family.
Message from Chris, January 5, 2018, addressed to his friends and co-workers at Southeastern Equipment:
I know a bunch if you have inquired about how I have been doing and I just wanted to start from the beginning. Monday afternoon I got caught in a corn picker and I broke all the bones in my right forearm, wrist and most of my hand as well as my left leg below the knee, my ankle and foot. I have had two surgeries as of right now and the pain is manageable. I have better mobility in all extremities than anyone figure I would at this point but there is a long road ahead. I am expected to be in the hospital for at least two weeks.
Thanks to everyone who has inquired about me through Heath. It is really appreciated. If anyone would like to give me a call you are more than welcome to on my personal phone. Texts are appreciated as well just let me know who you are. Don't use my work number unless you want to talk to TJ. I want to apologize if I don't answer the first time but I will get back to you. I will try to keep updates in this email so everyone can be aware of what's going on.
Thank you for all the support already. You guys are a great work family.
P.S. as I get a chance I am still working from the hospital ;)
We are asking for contributions of any amount to help cover these extremly high current and future medical and personal expenses while Chris recovers and while Carly remains away from work providing Chris the support he greatly needs.
Thank you for your consideration,
