Chris first got sick in 2012. In September of that year he had his first surgery to remove part of his pancreas. When surgeons got inside things were much worse than expected. They had to remove all of the pancreas and while doing so many other complications arose and he barely survived the surgery. He lived the next 9 months without a pancreas. He had developed blod clots in all of his major arteries that would eventually cut off all blood supply to all of his abdominal organs. It was then determined that a transplant would be his only option.
He had his first multi visceral transplant (five organs...stomach, pancreas, liver, small and large intestine) in June 2013. He was in and out of the hospital with complications. He was never able to get proper nutrition so it was decided that a permenant feeding tube needed to be placed. During this procedure they perforated his bowel and stomach which created a fistula that would never heal. For the next year he dealt with an open hole on his abdomen. He was then put on the transplant list for a second time as this was the only option.
He had his second multi visceral transplant on March 19, 2016. He is still in the hospital now with complications from this surgery. As you can imagine, medical bills are enormous in addition to the normal every day expenses, 2 kids and Chris is not able to work. His wife is traveling back and forth to Indianapolis while trying to hold down her full time job. When Chris finally does get to come home, he will be required to go back to Indianapolis for clinic visits and any complications that arise. This will be a life long battle.
I am setting this account up to help try to relieve some of the financial burden. Any and all donations are much appreciated!
