Chris' HSCT campaign

Hi, my name is Chris and I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) 10 years ago at age 29. Right now I am on the cusp of being in a wheelchair and I need treatment that’s not covered by insurance and mostly not available to me in the US. This fund would cover a small part of the expenses, including cost of treatment itself as well as travel expenses to the Hematology and Cell Therapy
Department at the National Medical and Surgical Center in Moscow, Russia. With this treatment and a little luck, my MS could go into remission, and allow me to continue to care for my five-year-old daughter full time, which I love.
What’s the treatment?
MS is a disease where the immune system attacks and damages the healthy myelin insulation around the nerves, and eventually, the nerves themselves. Hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) replaces the flawed immune system with a new one that functions properly.
Stem cells are harvested from the blood (that's the "hematopoietic" part), and chemotherapy is administered to destroy the faulty immune system. The stem cells are then reintroduced, which jump-starts rebuilding and rebooting a healthy immune system. It's the only treatment in existence that has a chance of stopping the progress of MS dead. There is a chance, about 25% in 2 years, that the MS will reassert itself, but it’s still the best shot I have for my future. I already have significant disability, but I also have, hopefully, upwards of 30 years left in my life.
I'll be blogging about this here: hsct.chrisblazick.com
Thanks for your support!
