Cancer. Such a scary word. And especially upsetting when you hear that your son has it. Yes, our son, Chris, has testicular cancer. At the end of April 2023, he went to urgent care and had an ultrasound on a Friday, had bloodwork and an X-ray on Saturday, and by the following Tuesday he was in an operating room having a tumor and testicle removed. It was all so sudden and we’re still trying to get our heads wrapped around it, learning how to navigate through all the medical information we’ve been given over the past couple of weeks.
The good news is the tumor was isolated to the testicle and it doesn’t appear to have spread. In general, the prognosis for testicular cancer is very good and, so far, Chris appears to be one of the lucky ones. He has a urologist who we all like and feel very comfortable with. And even though it is horrible experience, we’re making our way through it with the support and encouragement from his medical team, family and friends.
Chris will need more tests and possibly more treatments in the weeks and months to come. We are hoping to raise money to help him with his medical expenses. He is extremely grateful for the support and well wishes he has already received, and so are we. Thank you for any help you can give.
We would also like to encourage all of the men out there to get regular check-ups. It may seem embarrassing or uncomfortable, but now that we’ve said the word “testicle” a few hundred times, it’s not so bad! And it just may save your life.
