Chris Turner grew up in this amazing town of Truckee. He’s been an avid skier, hiker, and outdoorsman his whole life. His is known for his early morning hikes up to Donner Peak to get that perfect sunrise photograph along with being a charismatic beautiful person with a great smile :). Chris is an adventurer through and through.
Last April, 2023, all that changed. Chris was working as manager on a construction project, he noticed some numbness and tingling on his right side and by afternoon he lost the ability to use his right leg and some of his right arm function. He thought he was having a stroke. He visited the ER at Tahoe Forest and was diagnosed with a tumor in his brain. He was urgently sent to Renown where later he was diagnosed with the worst kind of primary brain cancer , a Glioblastoma Multiform Stage 4 Wildtype. The prognosis was never good, but he took the fight head on (no pun intended) and on May 9, 2023 the tumor was surgically removed at UCSF “Full Resection”. Chemo and radiation began right after to fight the tumor/cancer from regrowing. Driving to San Francisco monthly for surveillance of his brain, along with multiple treatments to address swelling, pain, and ongoing seizures, Chris’s fight has been a tough and humbling battle. After radiation, Chris lost more mobility on his right side and difficulty with normal daily activities. Mind you going from an adventurer to fighting the fight of your life is no easy feat on any level.
February of this year, 2024, he was informed the tumor was back and almost the same size as the original tumor. Imagine our surprise when he was told he had less than 6 months to live. Options were given and Chris’s Neuro Onco team changed his Chemo Temodar to a more aggressive Chemo Gleostine. Chris had already started on immunotherapy Avastin so that was continued. Due to the aggressive nature of the disease getting the tumor of the disease getting tumor growth out of your head is the best course of action so Chris underwent his second brain surgery on March 15 of this year, followed by rehabilitation at CPMC. Chris had a more difficult time with his surgery. His brain cancer concentration is mainly in the left Parietal Region but due to radiation damage and two surgeries he hasn’t bounced back as quickly. We were heartbroken, scared, and speechless to find out a month after his second brain surgery the cancer is back. Sigh. Throughout this past year it has not only been emotionally, physically, and mentally challenging but the financial battle is ongoing and very stressful. Chris has been in and out of the hospital and care centers is a non stop fight to survive.
This fund raiser is for Chris Turner and his love Samantha Read, who has been by his side since the beginning helping with all levels of care, assistance, transportation and unconditional love and support. It is our wish to ease the financial burden this has placed on the both of them.
Thanks in advance for any donation. I can assure you every little bit will help enormously and will be so appreciated.
Love and prayers to Chris & Sam!!!!
