Help Chris Thorson with Leukemia costs

Hi, my name is Rachel Thorson and I am helping set up a way to help my brother Chris and his wife Chrissy Thorson set up a way to help divert the costs of medical bills, travelling, food, and lodging in Salt Lake related to his recent cancer diagnosis. Chris is a loving father, husband, brother, son, nephew, cousin, and friend to many of us.

On August 19th Chris went to the ER at Carson Tahoe Medical Center with an increased heart rate and had been feeling sick the week prior with flu like symptoms. Once there, they ran many tests to rule out what was going on. By the next morning, he received the news from the doctors that he had some form of Leukemia. He found out that he would be air flighted to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City that day to begin the process for treatment. They were soon sent there without any notice and being unable to say goodbye to their two young daughters Emma and Mia.

Upon arrival to Salt Lake City, they began to run many tests:

- bone marrow biopsy (to confirm what kind of leukemia it was)

-blood work (to see what his initial lab work showed)

-PET scan (to see where the cancer has spread)

-spinal tap (to see if the cancer spread in the fluid of the spine)

After the confirmation of all these tests, it was determined that Chris has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). He began his first round of treatment on August 25th with chemotherapy. His first round of treatment is 28 days that they have now determined he will have to stay in Salt Lake City . After this first round of treatment, they will rerun most of those tests to see how his body responded to treatment and may send him back to Carson City to receive outpatient treatment for his cancer with collaboration with the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

This will most likely involve him having to travel to Salt Lake multiple times for different tests depending on how the course of his treatment and what they want him to do. This is an eight hour drive and they might also have associated costs with staying outside the hospital as well. Chris will also (because of his immunocompromised state) will most likely be staying with his parents as his children are respectively going to kindergarten and day care and pose a risk for him to easily get infected.

This initial cost is based on:

-Numerous travel expenses and vehicle costs back and forth from Carson City, NV to Salt Lake City, UT for medical treatment.

-Meals that are not provided for

-Cost of staying at the outpatient housing facilities in Salt Lake City

-Associated medical costs that are not covered with medical insurance

-Other incidental costs: disinfecting the house before Chris arrives
