Chris's TBI Recovery Fund

Donation protected
My name is Jennifer, and my family and I are organizing this fundraiser for my brother, Chris.

On October 6th, he was involved in a terrible car accident. The responders at the wreck site determined that his vehicle had flipped end to end at least twice, and he exited the rear window during the process. The damage his body sustained was extensive, much of it cranial. They elected to transport him via ambulance to a LifeStar helipad, then airlifted him to the hospital.

Chris had to undergo emergency surgery right away. The left side of his skull was in many pieces; the neurosurgeon repaired it as best as they could, and put it back in place. On the right side, the impact was so forceful that it split the bone segments, so the bone flap was entirely removed for the time being. Two large hematomas were cleared away; the right side of the brain was badly bruised. His spleen had been bleeding, and was damaged beyond repair, so it was extracted as well. And finally, he has some fractured vertebrae in his neck.

Aside from the Traumatic Brain Injury and aforementioned damage, he sustained minor injuries and burns, and has developed pneumonia from being on ventilation. While we have seen positive, encouraging glimmers throughout this ordeal, he is still critical and remains in ICU. With a TBI, there is also a high possibility that he will need months to years of therapies - anything from speech to mobility. Unfortunately, until he is a bit more recovered, he cannot be fully assessed. With this in mind, we've decided to set a 100k goal that could shift in either direction. All donations will go directly to his ongoing care, both medical and rehabilitative. In the event that recovery exceeds expectations, and we surpass the amount that is necessary, the rest will be used for college expenses or similar.

Every penny matters. Please do not feel that any amount is silly, unproductive, or otherwise unhelpful. If you're unable to assist monetarily, we would be so, so grateful for word of mouth and sharing the page with others. And finally, we thank you all so much for your prayers, encouraging energies, and well wishes. This is such a hard time for all of us. On behalf of the entire family - thank you.
