Chris Scott Emergency Surgery Expenses
Donation protected
As most of you know the aneurysm in Chris' stomach ruptured on Monday and he had emergency surgery to place a stent. The surgery went perfectly and he was released Tuesday afternoon.
Since getting home he's been in a considerable amount of pain and other complications (detailed in Alexis update below) ultimately being readmitted and placed in the ICU at Banner Thunderbird. In short he now has a dissection of his aorta. The surgeons have advised he'll need a full replacement of his aorta and iliac. At the moment he's not healthy enough to undergo such a major surgery.
God only knows how long he'll be out of work. Unfortunately, he does not have any PTO or disability coverage. We're hoping to raise enough funds to cover a month of their household expenses and help with some of the medical expenses that have already started to hit.
Latest detailed update from Alexis:
Wednesday night he started experiencing extreme pain, something he hadn’t experienced at all with this. I had to call and ambulance and they unfortunately couldn’t take him to Thunderbird so he went to another hospital. I am not going to go into that, but long story that was an unsuccessful ER trip. We get home about 4am and he’s just not finding relief it’s actually getting worse. We finally decide in the afternoon that we should head to Thunderbird. As we sat in the waiting room his vascular surgeon called and asked what was going on. I told him and he called the ER and had us taken back as priority and did a stat angiogram.
When his surgeon walked into the room his face was white. He explained that his stent looks great however, his dissection moved up into the aorta. The same thing is happening but now in his aorta. We had a team rush in and get us up to CVICU. His critical care doctor came in and said they will start him on several meds to keep his heart rate under 60, his blood pressure low and also treat his pain. They got him settled into the CVICU and worked all night to stabilize him, he was in excruciating pain and the pain meds weren’t even touching it. I finally fell asleep at about 3am and was woken up to his nurse letting me know his vitals were dropping and not stabilizing and they were taking him to CT to check for bleeding.
They finally switched his pain medicine around, and he is finally comfortable! He’s finally resting. He’s in much better spirits. His CT shows no bleeding and the dissection has not grown. If it grows, the next stop is his kidney. It stops blood flow to them then they fail, then it moves to the next organ and so on. He has very good circulation everywhere even tho 70% of his blood flow is going into his dissection, only 30% is flowing through his artery.
His vascular surgeon is just so stumped on this he consulted with another vascular surgeon and they both agreed operating right now is too dangerous. He is so inflamed and his body has been through so much trauma it’s not safe. They are managing it with the different medications and once his body heals, he will have to open him up completely and replace his aorta and iliac arteries. This is a major surgery. We don’t know when this will be. We are just taking this day by day. They are testing him for a connective tissue disorder because all of his vessels are huge and blown up and he will now have appropriate treatment for that if he has something. I am claiming it, he’s gonna be ok! He has to be.
His critical care doctor said he’s seen these heal themselves and go years without surgery! I pray we are this lucky!
We are so grateful for all the love and support. I just don’t know what I can do to thank all of you.
