BEFORE THERE IS A CURE, THERE ARE DREAMS

TOGETHER WE CAN LIFT THE HEAVY BURDEN OF DIABETES IN AFRICA SO KIDS CAN DREAM BIG & LIVE HEALTHY, HAPPY LIVES.

My name is Chris Ruden. I was born with a physical disability and, 9 years ago, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

Living with an incurable autoimmune disease that requires minute-by-minute attention and blood sugar management is not easy.   But those of us who have been diagnosed or have friends and loved ones living with Type 1 diabetes in the United States and Europe know...Diabetes is manageable. For me, It has pushed me to dream bigger and accomplish more, and I’ve been been fortunate to start a career helping others through motivational speaking, and nutritional consulting.

THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF A NEWLY DIAGNOSED TYPE 1 DIABETIC IN AFRICA IS 1 Year.

In contrast to the developed world, where Diabetes is a manageable disease, in Africa it is a virtual death sentence. To make matters worse:

---There is practically ZERO funding for Type 1 Diabetes in Africa.

---The average cost of diabetic care is almost 50% of the average total household income ($1500 USD)

---There are huge gaps in health worker education and too few Doctors equipped to handle children with T1D

------In Uganda, for example, there are only 4 pediatric Endocrinologists in the entire country---home to 23 million kids under 18

All children deserve a shot at a life where they overcome adversity to fulfill their dreams! Please help me raise money to lift the heavy burden for children living with T1D in Africa.

FUNDRAISING FOR THE SONIA NABETA FOUNDATION

The Sonia Nabeta Foundation (SNF), a NYC based 501c3 established to change the status quo and provide holistic health care to children with Type 1 diabetes in Africa. The organization hosts camps for kids with Type 1 across the African continent, and partners with large organizations to procure and distribute much-needed supplies for life-sustaining care.

I have decided to work with the SNF to advocate, raise money, and empower the people to improve quality and length of life as a Type 1 Diabetic in Africa.  I will be traveling to Uganda in December , at the request of the organization, to participate in Camp Ecora in Arua, Uganda. I will share my story of overcoming adversity with them, but will also be using my trip as an opportunity to shed light on a silent issue that requires greater attention from our global community.

HERE IS HOW OUR DONATIONS COULD HELP:

$700: provides enough funding to supply one child with a years worth of basic diabetic healthcare supplies (insulin, a glucometer, strips, lancets, and A1c testing)
$7,000: Provides basic healthcare supplies to 10 children for 1 year
$10,000: Provides funding needed for the operations for running one wellness and educational camp for ~60 children living with T1D in Africa
$20,000: Provides basic healthcare supplies to 15 children for 1 year and enough funding for 1 educational/wellness camp for kids living with Type 1.
$50,000:  Provides basic supplies to 30 children and helps sustain 3 wellness camps  through the Sonia Nabeta Foundation.

When we hit this goal, we have the opportunity to  add 175 months of life saving care-- 5300 days -- to kids' lives. We have the opportunity to continue having camps and events for kids over in Uganda who struggle daily just to survive-- WE are giving them a chance to THRIVE.

When we hit this goal, Kids in Uganda will suffer less and live more. This is just the beginning and I thank you for being a part of it!

Every dollar you donate will be used only to fund on-the-ground programs designed to help children with Type1 Diabetes live well and dream BIG!

Recognizing your generosity. Thank you!

The work the Sonia Nabeta Foundation does is not only helping children grow into healthy, happy adults; We are saving lives. Every dollar you give will touch one child, who will learn about your support. Thank you for believing in me, in the SNF, and the power of kids to persevere with the right supportive network.

Help me to continue to help kids battling with a condition they never asked for.
