In memory of Chris Pittman's life, the Union Township community will plant a beautiful pink Kwanzan cherry tree and place two benches in Finn Park. As his neighbor and one of his friend's mother, I am collecting funds to cover these purchases.
As a student at Union Township Elementary and Middle School, Chris was one of a very small group of boys in a class with a 2:1 ratio of girls to boys. The boys were all very close when they were little and remained in touch in high school with many of them playing soccer, video games, or rock climbing together. AT RIT, Chris also developed close friends several of whom made the drive to his services.
Chris's mother and brother, Nick, shared favorite memories of times with Chris during his service. They shared laughs and funny stories which made everyone smile. Nick also made everyone make two promises. The first was to make random acts of kindness and shared how strangers and neighbors had offered his family such kindness in the week surrounding Chris's passing. The second was to promise to reach out to someone if any of us were struggling and to remember that you are not alone. He pleaded that no brother should have to go through the pain he is experiencing. The gathering of friends and family, young and old, turned to each other filled with tear-filled eyes, and promised each other. For this reason, one of the benches will be engraved with "Nick, We Promise."
Any funds collected beyond our fundraising goal will be given to the Pittman family to make a donation in Chris's honor.
