Christopher Mello Funeral

Donation protected
Our brother Christopher Mello passed away unexpectedly on March 24th, 2019. He came in this world a blue baby with Hypoplastic left heart syndrome or HLHS, a birth defect that affects normal blood flow to the heart in utero. The left side of the heart does not form correctly. Simply, my brother was born with half a heart, but that never stopped him from loving his friends and family...wholeheartedly. As a family we decided we would like to further the education of this syndrome so, in coordination with Chris’s cardiologist Dr. Mike Landzberg and his team at Boston Children’s hospital along with Conway Cahill-Brodeur funeral home in Peabody, Chris’s heart, lungs and major internal organs have been given to medical science. It’s a legacy that Chris would be proud of!

Chris never had it easy health wise, but he never let it stop him. He never looked at any of us and said why do I have to live my life like this, why can't I be "normal" like the rest of you? Chris couldn't run, ride a bike, or compete in sports but he never let any of that hold him back. Most of the time we had to hold him back cause he tried to push his limits. Chris travelled across the country, he went to New Orleans with his friends...as best he could he lived his life to the fullest. He was a kind caring man who would do anything for anybody. As one of our cousins said recently, “that kid didn’t have a mean bone in his body.” He was always cheerful and positive, and even when he wasn't feeling good he put on a brave face and said he was fine. Chris defied the odds.  Doctor's said he wouldn’t live past the age of 2. He went through countless ER visits and hospitalizations, surgeries and even the unknown at times from childhood into adulthood.

The passing of our father in August 2017 was hard on all of us, but for Chris, he lost his best friend. Unfortunately he never recovered from that loss.

As siblings, we were fortunate to have our brother in our lives for as long as we did. We will keep his memory alive in our hearts forever. Chris gave so much to so many so we are asking our friends and loved ones, if possible, to help with funeral expenses so that we can honor Chris as much as his life honored us.
